Doggie Jacket

Schubert got a haircut today and the poor thing looks like a little rat. I made him a jacket to wear in case he gets cold without any hair.

I have a couple fancy ideas to add to the next one when he's full grown, but decided to make this one pretty simple.

My model doesn't really cooperate very well...

Schubert

This is the newest member of our family, Schubert.

He's getting his first haircut tomorrow so I wanted to make sure I documented what he looked like before the old man "do".

Schubert and Mozart are just like brothers. Little brother wants to be around big brother all the time and big brother steals all the toys and hides them out of reach. Typical.

Strawberry?

I planted about 6 strawberry plants and the only fruit I ever find looks like this....

That can't be right can it?

I think Mo is eating them... There were 3 normal looking ones out there yesterday that I could see, but all he left me with is this.

Granola

Baked:

No bake:

I love the soft texture on the no bake granola and didn't really end up eating much of the baked granola.

Ingredients:
Old Fashioned rolled oats - not quick set
1 cup chunky peanut butter - pan melted on low heat
1 cup honey
1 cup mini chocolate chips

Mix oats, peanut butter and honey together until the oats are well coated.
Add additional honey and peanut butter until well coated.
Add in chocolate chips.
Pour into baking dish.
Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

I tend to keep mine in the fridge so they stay together a little better. They're still good without refrigeration.

Pumpkin dog biscuits

After the overnight oats I had pumpkin left over so I thought I'd make Mo and Schubert some tummy soothing treats.

I used the recipe here, but substituted 2 tbs yogurt for the dry milk. The dogs were a little slow to eat them so they must not taste as good as their regular bones. Maybe it's the smell I dunno, but it's supposed to soothe their tummy so they won't get it often.

Overnight Oats

I've been wanting to try this for a while. I used the recipe from here. I tried the pumpkin option, but didn't really care for it. The toppings I opt for are: almond butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup.

Coffee Cake

I've been trying not to bake for the last several months so that I won't eat so many sweets. I don't think it helped at all!  I really like coffee cake so I'm proud to say that I only ate one piece of this cake.

I mixed the topping and crumbled it over the top before putting it in the oven, but somewhere something went awry... in a good way! The topping I put on the cake sunk to the bottom and created a chewy crust. I just whipped up another batch of the topping and re-topped it 10 minutes before the end of baking. I'll never do this any other way if I can make whatever mistake it was again on purpose.

Topping:
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c flour
1/4 c unsalted butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped pecans

Cake:
1 1/2 c flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
3/4 c sugar
1/3 c melted unsalted butter
1/2 c milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping prep:
In small mixing bowl combine ingredients until crumbly and set aside.

Cake prep:
Preheat oven to 375°
Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
In another bowl beat together the egg, sugar, and butter.
Add the milk and vanilla.
Stir in flour mixture and mix well.
Pour batter into a greased and floured 8 inch square pan.
Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over batter.
Bake at 375°  for 40 minutes or until cake tests done.
Allow to cool partially before cutting into squares.

If your topping sinks to the bottom you can mix up another batch of the topping to sprinkle over the top of the cake 30 minutes in to baking.

Wrapped Letters

I have a blank wall in my office/craft room and I didn't know what I was going to do with it. I still feel it needs a little something, but this was a start:

I bought cardboard letters from the craft store and two colors of yarn. You could wrap these in any manner that you'd like. I followed the instructions here.
