Sugar Cookie bars

I saw a post on Pinterest for these sugar cookie bars. My photo isn't very good because I don't have adequate light.

I used my buttercream frosting recipe after reading the ingredients for theirs, but the cookie part is really pretty good. More on the side of cake than a cookie, but it works and it was fairly easy. You can find a link to the recipe here although they got the idea from another blog as well. Their picture is so much better than mine, but I am willing to bet my frosting tastes better.

Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chocolate Chip cupcakes

The cake also has chocolate chips inside of it... that fact would be more impressive for me if I actually ate it, but I just swipe off the frosting and toss the cake.

Tripple Heart Cookies

I have wanted to be a barista so that I could make coffee with hearts and other designs on top. Until then I will just have to satisfy that dream with cookies like these.

Dots and Stripes Cookies

Valentine's day is one of the most fun Holidays for baking in my opinion. There are just so many different ideas that pop into my head when I think of Valentine's day so I look forward to it even if I find the holiday itself to be complete phooey.

Happy New Year!

When looking for ideas for Lunar New Year cookies I came across these welcome spring chinese character cookies.

The character above means spring. Turning the character upside down is supposed to symbolize welcoming spring for the new year.

For all I know these say something really inappropriate. If you can read Chinese characters and they don't say Spring, pretend they're not Chinese! I'm white. There's no way they're going to turn out perfectly.

Don't laugh at my dragon he's an original and the best I can do.

Cherry Blossom Cookies

I love cherry blossoms, but I'm not so sure how I feel about these cookies. I'll have to research some dragging techniques and try these again sometime. I want them to have a little more subtlety.

No Steal Towels

I go through kitchen towels like crazy. SOMEONE is always grabbing them off the counter and running off with them.

Over the Christmas Holiday I had one single Christmas themed towel I'd received from my grandma in years past that attached to a drawer or oven handle. It was awesome! I was able to keep track of a towel for more than a few hours...

I found this tutorial on Pinterest and could not wait to try it out on one of the towels I already had. It was so easy and I will be going out to buy more towels to make a million more of these things.

These should thwart those little towel thieves once and for all!

Simple Pin Cushion

I have been trying to come up with a good useful pincushion idea. I like the idea of making something that attaches to my machine and will likely try that later, but for now I really like the simplicity that is a mason jar, some cloth, and a little Polyfill.

Not only do I have a nice place to store my pins, I also have a handy place to keep my loose buttons.

Instructions:
Cut 2 cardstock circles using the lid ring as a guide.
Place polyfill in the center of the cloth and place the cardstock circle on top of the fill.
Use hot glue to secure your fabric to the cardstock gathering cloth from alternating sides a bit at a time.
It is easier to gather your edges if you cut the excess fabric off of the sections you've already glued.
Once all edges are glued you can glue the second cardstock circle onto the bottom of your pin cushion giving it a finished flat edge.
You may not be able to fit the original metal seal lid on the jar in a manner that allows you to screw the top onto the jar. That's ok, you can leave it off as I did!

Voila~ cute efficient pin cushion jar.

Owl Laptop Sleeve Case

Fleece lining

I have some adjustments to make on this case. I read through some tutorials on some other cases and then put my own twist on it. Going off of the way other people took measurements I ended up with the case being about an inch too big either way. I want it to fit more like a sleeve so I'm going to take it apart and make the adjustments while also maybe changing up the shape a little in some areas. The case is sewn straight, but doesn't really appear straight unless full considering the lack of substance to the cloth. Added interfacing might help it keep better shape if I make any more of these in the future.

In light of the fact that things tend to go horribly wrong when I get towards the end of a project, I've taken my pictures and am going to put them up as is... just in case the thing explodes while I'm working to fix it.

This blog seems to be turning into a sewing blog rather than a baking blog. I think that goes along with the fact that I feel I'm getting squishier and all of these sweets aren't helping.

I will be making some cookies today.

Makeup Pouches Part 2

I wanted to try to make clutch purses, but decided to take it a step further and make an accessory for the makeup bags I made last weekend. I didn't have a pattern so the polka dot one was really a challenge as I tried to figure out how best to perfect the design.

People were injured in the making of these lovelies.... People being me and me being dumb is the reason there were injuries.

It was a lot easier to make the second one as I had a good idea of everywhere I'd gone wrong on the first one and what could be done to get it together more efficiently. Only 3 more to go!

Makeup Pouches

Have I mentioned I love Pinterest? I love Pinterest!

I followed this tutorial.

Not a single one of mine came out perfectly, but that's sewer's error not the tutorial.

Someday I will make something that I don't have to rip the seam out of or wish a flaw away on... someday...

New Years Eve Skyline Cookies

Mine:

I found the idea for these cookies while google image searching New Years cookies so someone out there has done these before me. I'm not the evil mastermind (or am I?), but I think mine turned out better. That's very bold of me to think so isn't it?!

You decide~

Happy New Year!

I hope the world isn't going to end this year, but if you knew for certain that it was what would you spend your time doing and what would be important to you?

Honestly, what better way to plan for the new year than with the pressure of impending doom?!

If you knew the world was ending would you resolve to lose 20 lbs or would you resolve to gain 20 lbs? I think you know my answer since I have a blog about sweets...

May you have good fortune~

I really had no idea what I was doing with these as the instructions I was using were rather vague, However, They did turn out alright if a little giant sized... They taste like fortune cookies!
